The melody of the French language encompasses 4 levels. It changes on the last syllable of the group of words.

The affirmative sentence starts on
level 2: it is the most comfortable tone.

level 1: this means that the interlocutor can start talking.

In a sequence of enumerations, the last syllable of the enumeration rises to
level 3: this means that the sentence will continue.

In a question without an interrogative word, the voice rises up to level 4.
